Dear Friend of the Homewood Library,

When we first moved to Homewood almost 10 years ago, the Homewood Library saved our family in many ways! We arrived in Alabama in May 2014 with three children under the age of 5–including a 4-month old infant!–with no summer plans and little knowledge of the Birmingham landscape. We quickly found our way to the Homewood Library and were amazed at the breadth and depth of programming and opportunities. Daily programs and stacked shelves kept us busy and helped connect us with our new neighbors and our new city.

Today, each member of our family leans heavily on the Library for entertainment, knowledge, community, and more. My youngest is determined to check-out every graphic novel on the library’s shelves. My daughters serve on the Teen Advisory Board and have enjoyed classes covering a broad range of topics, from how to apply monster make-up to creating sustainable fashion. My old school husband loves using the library’s app to reserve CDs of whatever music he’s crushing on that month. We’ve borrowed a really big telescope to stargaze. We’ve even tried our hands at ukeleles. And I can’t wait to get my hands on that power washer the library offers in its Library of Things!  All of this is made possible because of our amazing library.

The fact that all of this goodness exists right down the street from us is such a gift! Will you join me in sharing your love and appreciation of our library by making a donation to support this fabulous resource? Your gift of any size enables our wonderful library to keep offering all of this amazinginess and to continue serving the Homewood community (and beyond!), making it one of the best and busiest libraries in the state of Alabama!

Thank you for your support and for loving your library! I also want to take this opportunity to invite you to save the date for the best party in Homewood–the library’s annual Block Party. We’ve enjoyed eight years of the Block Party in the month of August, but this year we’re moving it to April 20, 2024 to beat the heat. Please mark your calendars and make a plan to join us!

Sincerely,
Megan Cheek
